  1. Moving On

From the album March

Lyrics

No matter how he tries to grasp
Her attention, he’s a memory at best
Still, a pleasant one to pit against her suitors
But still, he’s always placing last

And he hopes she might understand
The image he’s drawn on her hand
Still, she turns away afraid he might just love her
And that’s a fate she couldn’t stand

He sings
Lay me down to sleep, you sweet memory
The days that I spend wanting to lay beside you
Now are lost to a dream

And he doesn’t want to tie her down
Or tell her how to walk around
He doesn’t want to be the man that’s always jealous
He wants to be a man she can trust

So, he writes the words he wants to say
But feels it wouldn’t matter anyway
He doesn’t speak in case she might invite him
Back to her place another day

Sure enough, she calls him on the phone
Asking him to come to her home
He’s happy to be used, but still, he can’t forever
And soon enough he’ll leave it alone

He sings
Lay me down to sleep, you sweet memory
The days that I spend wanting to lay beside you
Now are lost to a dream

He wonders how she thinks of those nights
Where they talked until the sun gave her light
In streams of golden hues that promised loveless mornings
And dreams of a life that could’ve been

Now, it seems he’s moving on
He doesn’t seem to mind when she’s gone
I’m sure if she came back he’d start the whole thing over
But for now he’s moving on

He sings
Lay me down to sleep, you sweet memory
The days that I spend wanting to lay beside you
Now are lost to a dream
